Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 June 2026

This page is maintained by Couples Hiking Events ("we", "us") to explain how we collect and process personal information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA, Act 4 of 2013) and, where applicable, the GDPR. We are the responsible party for the data described below.

1. Information we collect

2. Why we process it

3. Lawful basis

We rely on (a) performance of our contract with you (managing your bookings), (b) your consent (announcements), and (c) our legitimate interests (site security, fraud prevention).

4. Sharing your information

We only share personal information with service providers needed to run the club: hosting and database (Lovable Cloud / Supabase), payments (Yoco), e-commerce (Shopify). These providers act as operators under our instructions.

5. Retention

We keep account data while your account is active and for up to 36 months after closure for legal/accounting reasons, then delete it.

6. Your rights under POPIA

You may access, correct, delete or export your personal information, withdraw consent for announcements, or object to processing at any time. Signed-in members can permanently delete their account themselves from My bookings → Delete account. For any other request, email our Information Officer below.

7. Security

Data is stored in encrypted databases with Row-Level Security and least-privilege access. All traffic uses HTTPS. We will notify affected users and the Information Regulator without unreasonable delay if a security compromise is reasonably believed to have occurred, as required by section 22 of POPIA.

8. Children

Our service is intended for adults (18+). Minors may attend only with a parent or legal guardian who has accepted these terms.

9. Cookies

We use only strictly necessary cookies for authentication and shopping-cart functionality. We do not use third-party advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, so no consent banner is required.

10. Cybercrimes Act

Unauthorised access, interception or interference with this site or its data is an offence under the Cybercrimes Act 19 of 2020 and will be reported to the South African Police Service.

11. Complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your data you can lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa): JD House, 27 Stiemens Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, 2001 · POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za · inforegulator.org.za.
